SimplySoles Says…

...Music, Mates and Moms
October 5, 2005

As you probably know, our fall catalog has shipped. We’ve gotten a great response thus far (thanks to many of you), which is keeping Rebeccah and me a tad busy to say the least. We average about 14 hour days, and Molly the mascot dog has become spoiled (and grown fat) with all the toys and treats I’ve given her to preoccupy herself. None of us are complaining about being busy, don’t get me wrong. We're still a small, new company struggling to find itself in the world and so being busy fulfilling orders is welcomed. It’s just that I’ve developed a new appreciation for a few things in life that have each been separate sources of inspiration and motivation. I’m sure each of you have your own secrets to success (or even just endurance), but I thought I’d share with you a few of mine in hopes it may somehow help.

1.Music – I’m not about to tell you what kind of music I listen to for fear of totally embarrassing myself. What I can tell you though is that finding that “right” song or album does wonders for the spirit. Music can soothe, relax, energize, or motivate – it all depends upon the DJ. I certainly confess to knowing more about shoes than music, but what I can say is that when you are having a tough day, or feeling a little sluggish, throw on some of your favorite tunes and notice the results.

2. Mates – OK. I don’t always refer to my friends as “mates”, but I liked the alliteration. The point is that my friends (and husband) sometime “insist” that I put down the phone, shoe, or catalog, and meet them for a drink, dinner or movie. I usually complain and argue how busy I am, but thankfully they win out, and I’m always grateful afterwards. Separation is a good thing. I have this tendency to think that nothing can wait, but the fact of the matter is that most things can. So when your friends call requesting your company, I suggest that you join them.

3. Moms – Given that I’m about to become one, you’d think that fact alone would give me a new found appreciation for moms. But to give credit where credit is due, my mom’s support and willingness to be bossed around (in as loving and sweet tones as possible) has been invaluable. There’s nothing like family (aka cheap labor), but my mom really makes my life much more enjoyable. So if you have a mom nearby, and she doesn’t drive you crazy, consider putting her to work. Only kidding! Perhaps though you can consider thanking her. You’re alive, and you obviously have good taste in shoes, so she’s done something right.

We hope you all are well. We like to hear from you, so if you have something to say (questions, suggestions, feedback) just drop either Rebeccah or me a line. In the meanwhile, please keep us in mind if your feet need a treat.

Warm Regards,

Kassie
