Disasters such as Hurricane Katrina put everything in perspective and remind us of our priorities. Fashion is not normally considered a priority, and those of us in this business tend to feel rather shallow and useless in times like these. We imagine that many of you are also feeling a pang of guilt when you sip your latte, sprawl on the couch, or go shopping (be it for food or clothing). At least we can take comfort in knowing that so many individuals and businesses are contributing to the cause. It makes us feel a little more connected to those in need, and makes us all feel a little more connected to each other.
Here at SimplySoles, we are donating 30% of our profits through September 20th to the American Red Cross. Although the thought of donating shoes did cross our minds, we didn't think the survivors would appreciate wading through waste-deep water in designer pumps. We think that the survivors of Hurricane Katrina would alternatively appreciate some assistance from the American Red Cross, and thus determined a financial donation, instead of shoes, would still be a good fit.
So with heavy hearts, we invite you to shop your heart and soles out online, or through our new Fall/Winter 2005 catalog which will arrive in your mailbox during the next 10 days. To help drive our donation, we replaced the The Featured Sole on Sale with the Miss Sixty Rainboots. While we don't think they would have held up to Katrina, they should be able to manage your average rainy day.
Thank you for helping us help them, and for whatever else you may already be doing.
Best wishes to all,
Everyone at SimplySoles
