Celebrating the Big Momma - Mother Earth
Posted on April 21, 2010 at 11:54 AM

Earth Day is upon us. Today we celebrate and remember that, like our own mothers, Mother Earth should be treated with love and respect.

What are we doing? Well, in addition to being avid recyclers (my staff would suggest that I'm nearly as obsessed with recycling as I am with shoes), we try our best to tread consciously and lightly on Mother Earth by reducing our consumption and carbon footprint (one small example is that for our retail bags we use reusable totes instead of paper or plastic) . I’ve also personally decided to take up gardening.  I want to grow vegetables.  For someone who doesn’t grow plants let alone cook, this is going to be a challenge.  But for me, it’s the next logical step in caring for the environment and doing my share to contribute to sustainable growth.  I confess that I’m hoping there may also be a small side effect: since I don’t cook, I’m the designated household dish washer.  Perhaps if I grow some of what gets cooked, I’ll get a promotion.

Other companies are also engaged in caring for the environment, including lines like Mosey, Lilly Pulitzer, Charmone, and NueAra. They all do their share by donating their profits to non-profits or by using recycled materials and/or eco-friendly methods to produce their product. They make doing good while looking good an easily attainable goal. And that's something to like every day!

Here's to Mother Earth and to winning combinations.
